DETROIT – General Motors has agreed to recall certain model-year 2022 Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD trucks due to a potential brake-fluid leak.

The 39 vehicles in the recall population, which were produced by Navistar, have a “pressure-sensor fitting of the primary hydraulic brake line assembly may not be tightened to the correct torque and could leak brake fluid,” according to National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-364.

According to the report, “Navistar inadvertently omitted the torque specification from the hydraulic brake line assembly print provided to a supplier following a change to the assembly.”

If brake fluid is lost due to such a leak, drivers may experience soft or low brake-pedal feel and a brake-warning light may be illuminated. The former could lead to longer stopping distances and the chance of a crash.

The remedy determined by the manufacturer is tightening of the brake-pressure switch to specification, bleed of the brake system and topping off of the brake fluid.

Chevrolet dealers were notified of the recall late last month and owners are scheduled to be notified by July 5th.
