Body found in Pittsfield State Forest on Saturday

A media statement from the Berkshire District Attorney's Office confirmed that a body was found in Pittsfield State Forest on Saturday morning. The story continues, but this is what has been reported so far.

The state police detective team assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney's Office is investigating the death of a deceased person found in Pittsfield State Forest on Saturday morning.

Hunters reported to Pittsfield Police that they found the body at approximately 5:10 am. Pittsfield Police, Pittsfield Fire and Mobile Ambulance responded, and paramedics announced that the person was dead at the scene shortly after arrival.

The chief forensic doctor’s office is responsible for keeping the body and will conduct an autopsy on Sunday to determine the cause and manner of death. The Berkshire District Attorney's Office will not release the name of the deceased until Sunday's autopsy.

The State Police Detective Team assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office and the Pittsfield Police Department is investigating. The investigation is ongoing.

The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Cheshire Barracks, the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office and other assets of the Massachusetts State Police also responded.
