Thanks to the full resumption of infrastructure and construction operations, the country’s PVC pipe and fittings industry has rapidly recovered from the pandemic-driven business situation.

Some companies in this industry have returned to pre-pandemic levels.

Small and medium-sized entrepreneurs in the industry-somewhat dormant during the pandemic-have also restarted business.

Market participants said that small and medium entrepreneurs lost customers because of the break in the supply chain during the period.

Market insiders added that because of the availability of infrastructure, modern technology, and financing, they lost customers to big entrepreneurs who could provide better support.

According to market experts, pipes and fittings are one of the most important materials in the construction sector, with a wide range of uses.

More than 16,000 people are directly involved in this field. With the demand for pipes and fittings in different industries, the construction industry is growing at a rate of 20% every year.

Experts say that the investment in this field has exceeded 60 billion taka. RFL Plastics, National Polymers, Bengal Plastic, Lira, Anwar, Navana and Gazi Group are the main brands that meet 80% of the local demand.

The government is the largest consumer of these products. Experts further added that in addition to brands, there are some non-branded, low-end plastic pipe and fitting manufacturers that account for nearly 20% of the market share in the industry.

Kamruzzaman Kamal, Pran-RFL Group Marketing Director, said that the pipe and fittings industry is related to the construction business that has been greatly affected by the pandemic.

"We have almost recovered from the devastation of the pandemic. Business is in a normal state."

RFL Group has two manufacturing plants-Narshingdi and Habiganj. The Narshingdi plant has a production capacity of 14,000 metric tons per month. It is the largest PVC pipe manufacturer in China.

National Polymer Industries Ltd Chief Financial Officer Md Shawkat Ali Miah said: "The company has had a positive business during the pandemic because we have gained more customers during this period."

"We are working hard to support our customers because the business is now at pre-pandemic levels."

An official of the Anwar Group said that they have also recovered from the pandemic.

"Due to the increase in product demand, we have been able to recover quickly."
